Let RIVER CITY IMAGE WORKS scan your photos, slides, and negatives to high quality digital files! Our 100% electronic equipment and technical expertise ensure highest quality results at reasonable cost to you. Our usual service involves scanning 35mm negatives and slides at 2400 dots per inch and 16 bits per channel. This ensures that the maximum amount of color or grayscale information is captured at a resolution sufficient for enlarging these small film images to approximately 8x10". Larger film formats and paper prints are typically scanned at proportional resolutions (although higher resolution scans are available, should you anticipate enlarging your images to more than 8x10" size). Please note that while the scanning service includes dusting of the scanned film or print and accurate control of exposure, the cropping, adjustment, or restoration of the images is not a part of this service. (For these services, please see the photo restoration portion of our web site.) Please follow this link to see a good example of the quality scanning performed by River City Image Works. Your scanned images will be returned to you on DVD data disks, with the files numbered consecutively or named according to a protocol you specify. The files are usually returned in either uncompressed TIFF (tiled image file format) or PNG (professional network graphics), rather than the more common JPEG (joint photographic experts group), since the JPEG compression algorithm degrades images with unwanted artifacts. (Upon customer request, JPEG files can be included or substituted for TIFF/PNG.) If you wish, we can also supply index prints, which are 8.5x11" glossy prints containing from 16 to 36 small images and their file names, which can assist you in cataloging your images or choosing specific items to print or restore. |
